Assignment for February Break

As discussed in class, blogging is 10% of your grade. Your assignment for February break is to post about two different poems. These postings are your first two assignments for the blogging portion of your grade. For each poem you have to write a paragraph discussing the overall meaning of the poem. Remember, in order to support your idea of the overall meaning you need to include and explain examples of poetic elements from the poem. The postings are due by noon on Sunday, February 25.

Poetic Elements

This week we began our poetry unit. We learned about the following poetic elements:

  • Rhyme Scheme
  • Meter
  • Alliteration
  • Assonance
  • Imagery
  • Simile
  • Metaphor
  • Symbolism
  • Personification

You are responsible for knowing the definition of each element, as well as how to use and look for them in poetry.

 Homework assignment due 2/6:

Print out the lyrics to your favorite song or poem and write a paragraph explaining why it is your favorite. Then, discuss the structure and figurative language used.
